Hymn to Sobek

Hymn to Sobek

From murky depths and darkened fens,
Where serpentine forms entwine,
Rises, a god of crocodilian mien,
Sobek, Lord of the Nile.

His eyes, like jewels of ancient night,
Sharp and observant, they gleam,
He who devours and gives new life,
To warfare does he bring his keen.

He who unites the scattered limbs,
Of noble Osiris, brought to life,
Through his father, Seth, the force within,
And yet, to Horus and Isis, a midwife.

Bound beneath the whelming tides,
Misfortune and chaos, he masters,
For he is Sobek, the savager,
Protecting from all that draws disaster.

Oh, praise the resplendent Sobek,
The crocodile, strong and bold,
His fearsome teeth, great wisdom bequeath,
As tales of valor unfold.

Eater and mender, wielder of awe,
An aspect of Horus, the sky,
With love and devotion, our hearts ennoble,
For Sobek, the protector, we vie.

The tides of the ever-flowing Nile,
Their abundance do bestow,
Sobek, creator of order, we revile,
Yet tread the path his crocodilian ways show.

An ode to thee, great Sobek, sung,
A hymn to the guardian of our land,
Horus entwined, Amun-Ra, combined,
We chant and praise with trembling hand.
